Powdery scab situation

Powdery scab is a common disease in many places in China and is becoming more and more epidemic. A recent survey (Zhang et al., 2024, Phytopathological Research, DOI https://doi.org/10.1186/s42483-024-00284-3) found the disease on tubers in all four main potato-growing regions of China (Northern, Central, Southern and Southwestern). In average 40% of the tuber samples were infected. An earlier survey, pre-published on 'Research Square' (Liu et al., 2023, DOI https://doi.org/10.21203/rs.3.rs-3192196/v1) claimed that the powdery scab is a common problem in Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Hebei and Yunnan Province.

Research

Research has so far concentrated on the detection of the pathogen in potato tuber and leaf samples using integrated-loop-mediated isothermal amplification assays (Zhang et al.)..
