Powdery scab situation
Powdery scab has been reported in 1987 (CMI Descriptions 34). For the first time in 2003 substantial amounts of root galls were observed on imported seed lots (Netherlands: Dura, Desiree, Mardona) planted in post control fields.
Symptoms on tubers are rarely observed.
Research
As powdery scab seems to become more important in potato production basic research has started (identification of the pathogen using microscopy, bioassay and immunology) and a 'First confirmed Report' has been published (Babu and Merz, 2011).
